Ceramics Fabricator
Company: Dumais Made
Duration: Full-time
Date Posted: 01/28/26
Category: Product Design
Location: BANTAM
Salary: 50-100k
Job Description

Dumais Made is seeking a full-time Ceramics Fabricator to join our studio in Bantam, Connecticut. This is a hands-on, craft-driven role for someone who finds meaning in process, precision, and repetition—and who understands that making well requires both care and rigor.

Our work is built slowly and deliberately. From lamps to furniture to sculptural objects, each piece begins with clay and is shaped through attention, patience, and problem-solving. We’re looking for a fabricator with a strong foundation in slab-built ceramics and a quiet confidence in their skills—someone who values collaboration, takes pride in their work, and is invested in making things the right way.

Studio Culture & Work Model

We operate on a 100 : 80 : 100 work model—100% pay, 80% hours, 100% responsibility. Our belief is simple: sustainable work leads to better making. This role is structured as a four-day work week, allowing time for rest, focus, and longevity in the studio.

What You’ll Do
• Fabricate slab-built ceramic components for production and custom work, including lamps, accessories, and furniture
• Work from detailed drawings, renderings, and production notes with precision and consistency
• Build sculptural and functional forms to exact dimensions, accounting for shrinkage and material behavior
• Assist with custom commissions and large-scale works that require careful measurement and planning
• Solve material and process challenges during construction, drying, firing, and post-firing
• Work collaboratively within the Fabrication Department and across studio teams
• Uphold a high standard of craftsmanship, care, and attention throughout every stage of production

Job Requirements

Who You Are
• You have 2–4 years of hands-on experience with slab-built ceramics and professional studio practices
• You are fluent with hand-building tools and joining techniques and understand the physical realities of clay
• You’re comfortable receiving direction and applying feedback, while also thinking critically and independently
• You communicate clearly—in writing and in conversation—and respect shared studio rhythms
• You take responsibility for mistakes, learn from them, and move forward without blame
• You have genuine respect for craft, material, and the work of others
• You value teamwork, consistency, and showing up with care

Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Comfort with repetitive physical tasks including bending, reaching, standing, and sustained studio work
• Ability to work in an active, production-focused studio environment

About our Company

Founded in 2017, Dumais Made is a ceramics studio that makes pieces by hand. A practice that began with lamps and has since evolved to furniture, objects, and accessories that balance form and function.

Because everything is made by hand, each piece possesses its own story. A story that reflects the collective of individuals that made it, their interests, ideas, and inspiration, their personality and process, even their temperament on the day.

It is this character that defines a piece by Dumais Made. Pieces crafted with care, that are intended to live alongside you, revealing their story along the way.
