What happens when brands design a showhouse?

The Metro Designer Showhouse: Glass House premiered earlier this month and noticeably absent from the press materials was the roster of designer headliners traditionally associated with these showcases. In its place? A list of participating brands: Design Within Reach, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Michelangelo, Lazzoni, Peradesign. Of course, designers were still involved in putting together the Edgewater, New Jersey, showhouse, which runs through June 30 and is produced by Aspire Design and Home magazine.

The headlining brands joined forces with interior designers to transform 12,000 square feet of waterfront property spanning six residences, including two townhomes and four apartments; each room was outfitted with products from the corresponding brand. Designers include Vanessa DeLeon, Anna Maria Mannarino, Virginia Toledo and Jessica Geller of ID 810 Design Group, Fulya Can, and Denise Butler, while brands used spanned Benjamin Moore, Wostbrock, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Design Within Reach, Lazzoni, Peradesign, Michelangelo, Williams Sonoma, Caesarstone, Miele, Sub-Zero Wolf, and American Brass & Crystal.

“I felt like the Aspire Design and Home Glass House Designer Showhouse was the right fit for me and my brand because of its modern architecture,” says Can, who designed with Lazzoni. “Lazzoni as a brand is modern contemporary with very clean lines. The Glass House has the same appeal architecturally, especially the apartment I designed. I did the showhouse back in 2015 with Aspire Design and Home magazine and it was so much fun. The showhouse is a great exposure to the brands as well as the designer. It allows us to network and branch out to new people we may have not reached before.”

Kim Phillips, head of public relations and events at DWR, tells EAL: “Participating in the Aspire Design and Home Glass House Designer Showhouse with interior designer Denise Butler affords Design Within Reach the opportunity to build a relationship with up-and-coming talent who aptly translated the company’s comprehensive product assortment—from living, dining, bedroom, bathroom, lighting and outdoor—into a welcoming environment for new homeowners. When outfitting a new home, shopping from a single-source provides true convenience, and Denise’s vision for the space demonstrated how this is possible at Design Within Reach.”

“The goal of Aspire Design and Home is to celebrate a beautiful breadth of diverse international lifestyles and design while bringing the design community together,” says the magazine’s publisher, Steven Mandel. “This has always been the focus of our editorial, which we continue to support and reiterate across the country through our Aspire live experiences. The Glass House is truly a reflection of remarkable design and architecture, and we are proud that it is home to our 2018 Metro Designer Showhouse.”
