Online home furnishings and decor destination Wayfair recently announced a new feature to its app called View in Room. Adopting a “Try it before you buy it” approach, the new simulation technology allows users to view product selections in specific room settings by using the camera from their smartphones.

“As we pioneer new emerging technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, we are simultaneously focused on bringing new solutions to market that will immediately benefit all of our customers,” said Wayfair co-founder and co-chairman Steve Conine. “The new View in Room feature solves a common customer pain point by making it possible for shoppers to preview furniture and decor in their home before placing an order.”

The new feature can be used with 6 million of Wayfair’s products. Once a user selects the product they would like to visually “test out,” a 2-D product image digitally furnishes the room. The user can place this image wherever they desire, adjusting the size and position. In order to compare multiple options, users can also save each image.

The Wayfair app is available on iPhone and Android devices.
