Orior New York opened its impressive Williamsburg, Brooklyn showroom on May 7, showcasing the collection’s contemporary furniture and signifying NYCxDESIGN’s Brooklyn expansion. With SCAD grads Ciaran McGuigan, Richard Langthorne and Karl Sjöström at the helm, hallmarks of the Irish legacy brand’s new contemporary furniture collection are the residential pieces distinctively inspired by their newly adopted city.

Consider the Cabbie, a deep saffron sofa, reminiscent of New York’s iconic taxis, and the Luxy, a robust yet apartment-friendly armchair designed with New Yorkers’ small dwelling spaces in mind. Says McGuigan of their urban inspiration, “What better place to launch our new collection? To meet new people, a new market, new ideas, this inspiration all goes down the same avenue, which is into our collection.”

Orior New York’s (pronunciation: or-ee-or) industrial-chic, two-floor space spotlights handmade-in-Ireland pieces that balance form and function across three sections: one highlighting the new collection, another a studio and communal working space, and a third highlighting hospitality and contract work. “Beautiful things are only beautiful if they function,” explained McGuigan. “We try to add our own twist to it. We use our experience with the wood, upholstery, the cutting and the sewing to create beautiful pieces of furniture that are not only pleasing to the eye, but also functional.”

The launch evening’s 300 notable guests included Liam Cunningham from "Game of Thrones" on HBO®; a documentary crew from SCAD; architectural designers from Rockwell Group, Gissler Design, SuiteNY, Homepolish, and AA Studio; architects from SOM and editors including Joe Hamilton, design and style editor at DEPARTURES, Nicole Haddad, design editor at New York Spaces, and Hadley Keller, the market style editor at Architectural Digest. Orior New York’s showroom is located at 199 N 8th St., Brooklyn.
