The Martin Architecture and Design Workshop, known as MADWORKSHOP, has opened a call for two design fellowships for this year, inviting proposals that address the theme of “Emergency Architecture.”
“The nonprofit foundation operates like a design incubator, which endows innovative designers with the opportunity to freely explore their ideas from concept to reality,” explains MADWorkshop. “In an era of increased environmental and political uncertainty, creative responses from designers has never been more important. MADWorkshop’s fellowship programs have been designed to address the design theme for 2017, ‘Emergency Architecture.’ The foundation is currently soliciting proposals for innovative and life-saving design solutions in the areas of product and fashion design.”
Fellows will receive a $5,000 grant to prototype their idea with the support of the foundation and its board.
East Coast fellows will work with New York board members Carl Magnusson, industrial designer, and Barbara Heizer, editor and entrepreneur, while fellows based in California can access MADWorkshop’s fabrication workshop and foundation facilities, as well as its West Coast board members, including Karen Hofmann of the ArtCenter, Frank Novak of Modernica, Edie Cohen of Interior Design magazine, director Sofia Borges, and founders David and Mary Martin.
