December auctions feature furniture and art

Decorative objects and furniture from both renowned masters and contemporary artisans take the auction floor by storm this month. Browse EAL’s roundup of the latest auctions at the leading auction houses.

Wright presents the Design auction, featuring work from art deco masters to sculptors to contemporary designers like Giò Ponti, Serge Mouille and Marc Newson. The auction begins December 10 at noon CST, at Wright’s Chicago location.

Doyle New York is hosting a benefit auction for Traditional Home’s 2015 Classic Woman Awards. Five Kravet chairs, designed by Alexa Hampton, Nick Olsen, Patricia Healing and Dan Barsanti, are being auctioned off as a featured section of the Doyle at Home event beginning today. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the charity assigned to each chair, including Prospector Theater, Tigerlily Foundation, Kids’ Food Basket, Children of Conservation and The Thorn Tree Project.

Bruun-Rasmussen presents its Paintings and Furniture auction on December 14 at 8 p.m. A collection of fine paintings and handcrafted furniture from European designers, including a signed Emma Thomsen still life, a Swedish empire crystal chandelier, an array of Danish furniture, and a wide selection of oil paintings. 

Christie’s will hold Design Masterworks in New York on December 17 at 10 a.m., spotlighting 28 pieces of original furniture and designs from Rembrandt Bugatti, Carlo Mollino and Giò Ponti, among other design luminaries.

Sotheby’s New York unveils “Alchemy: Art x Design,” an exhibition combining art, design and decorative objects from past and present. Curated by Delphine and Reed Krakoff, it will be on display to the public beginning December 13, with the Important Design auction taking place on December 16, featuring American and European pre- and post-War designs by Jean-Michel Frank, Eugène Printz and Pierre Chareau, along with other notable designers.
