Job Description

Kelly Tivey Interiors is seeking a Residential Interior Designer to join our boutique residential design studio in Pleasanton, California. This is a part-time hybrid position (15–20 hours per week) requiring regular in-office collaboration 2–3 days per week. We are looking for a designer with at least two years of professional residential interior design experience who can confidently contribute to projects from day one.

Working directly with the Principal Designer, you will support projects from initial concept development through final installation. Responsibilities include residential space planning, furniture layouts, design development, furniture and finish selections, material sourcing, client presentations, and the preparation of mood boards and design concepts. You'll also develop detailed FF&E specifications, coordinate procurement, communicate with vendors, track orders and deliveries, and help ensure projects remain organized and on schedule.

This is a design-focused position rather than a drafting role. We're looking for someone who can make thoughtful design decisions, communicate ideas visually and verbally, and carry those decisions through implementation with accuracy and attention to detail. The ideal candidate is both creative and highly organized, capable of balancing multiple projects while maintaining a high level of quality and professionalism.

The role also includes attending client meetings, documenting action items, conducting field measurements, participating in showroom visits, reviewing materials and samples, assisting with installations, styling completed spaces, and supporting final project walkthroughs. Regular collaboration in the studio is essential for design reviews, finish selections, and coordination with the Principal Designer.

As a small boutique firm, every team member has a meaningful impact on both the design process and the client experience. We value curiosity, initiative, technical skill, organization, and thoughtful

Job Requirements

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of professional residential interior design experience. Candidates should demonstrate strong experience with residential space planning, furniture layouts, design development, and the selection of furniture, fabrics, lighting, plumbing fixtures, tile, paint, countertops, hardware, and other interior finishes.

Applicants must have experience preparing accurate FF&E specifications, finish schedules, and selection documentation, along with the ability to organize product information, pricing, lead times, and procurement details. Strong proficiency in SketchUp is required for developing space plans, furniture layouts, design concepts, and accurately scaled drawings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace is also required.

Successful candidates are exceptional communicators with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. They should be comfortable working independently, taking initiative, and following projects through completion while collaborating closely with the Principal Designer. Experience communicating with vendors, coordinating procurement, attending client meetings, participating in installations, and maintaining organized project documentation is highly valued.

Because this is a hybrid position, applicants must be able to work regularly from our Pleasanton, California studio and travel locally to project sites, vendor meetings, and trade showrooms. Reliable transportation and a valid California driver's license are required.

Preferred qualifications include experience with Studio Designer, QuickBooks Online, Adobe Creative Suite, AI productivity tools, and residential construction documentation.
