Ochre is seeking a talented and thoughtful designer to join our studio in a long-term role focused on design development and brand continuity. This position is intended as an apprenticeship-style opportunity — working closely with senior designers to learn the language, materials, and philosophy behind Ochre’s work, while gradually contributing to new collections.
We are looking for someone who is deeply interested in lighting and furniture design, craftsmanship, and material exploration, and who sees themselves growing into a significant creative role over time.
Responsibilities
• Assist in the development of new lighting and furniture designs
• Research materials, finishes, and fabrication techniques
• Produce drawings, renderings, and technical documentation
• Work with workshops to refine prototypes
• Support sampling and mock-ups
• Maintain design archives and documentation
• Gradually take on increasing responsibility for original concepts
• Travel to London regularly to work alongside design team
Ideal Background
• Degree in product, furniture, or industrial design
• 2–5 years of studio experience preferred (for the right candidate, their experience might be outside this range)
• Strong drawing and visualization skills
• Understanding of materials and fabrication processes
• Interest in artisan manufacturing and small-batch production
• Thoughtful, patient, and detail-oriented
Expectations
• Primarily in-studio, collaborative role
• Willingness to learn through observation and iteration
• Long-term mindset — this is not a short-term stepping stone position
Goal of the role:
To help ensure design continuity and broaden the creative team over the long term.
