In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.

Parul Jain Ghei and Kanika Jain Gupta strive to strike a balance between bold and serene in their interiors. The sisters behind New York– and Connecticut-based Studio Jai Home rely on a time-honored mix of natural materials and conspicuous prints to foster spaces that are simultaneously simple and sophisticated, playful yet refined. “An intentional blend of elements that may seem chaotic at first, but are thoughtfully arranged, can make for a dynamic and engaging atmosphere,” Ghei tells Business of Home. “It creates a mood that feels both structured and energetic.”
The pair drew inspiration from the art deco movement, and the elegant-yet-eye-catching motifs that defined the era, when designing their current mood board. “The flat lay incorporates a mix of graphic shapes—some with sharp edges, others with smooth, rounded lines—to create an interplay of forms,” explains Ghei.
They used grayscale hues to ground the design, but sprinkled in an assortment of rich, metallic hues, ranging from burnished brass finishes to golden yellow upholstery, to energize the scheme.
Here, Ghei breaks down the details, from a waffle-weave rug to a smoked-oak dining chair.
