Residents open their homes for Cape May showhouse

This fall, four privately owned homes open their doors for a daylong tour presented by Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), in Cape May, New Jersey. While prior editions featured one home, this year’s Cape May Designer House Tour includes four seaside spots: The Villa at Willow Creek Farm & Winery, Villa Dora, The Cola Residence, and House of Harmony.

Ayeshah Dickerson, Benefit Hour tour manager for MAC, tells Business of Home: “The 2018 Designer House Tour is like a treasure hunt for design and architecture lovers, and gives tour goers a good feel of what the Cape May area has to offer.”

Highlights of the homes include a hand-milled cedar clapboard in iron oxide wrapped in copper at Willow Creek; the Cola Residence’s prime location within Cape May Point State Park; and the views of the bird sanctuary, Cove Beach and the Cape May Lighthouse from Harmony House, a summer home transformed into a year-round home.

Dickerson continues, “It’s a real treat to the senses. Homes in Cape May City, Cape May’s Cove Beach Area, West Cape May and Cape May Point each offer experiences for a variety of design tastes, and each has unusual and extraordinary features.”

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities has been teaming up with regional designers and property owners on sharing their homes since 2005. Proceeds of the events benefit MAC programs, which, the organization says, are “committed to promoting the preservation, interpretation and cultural enrichment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors.”

Self-guided tours are available on Saturday, September 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors receive a book with information on the designers, products and vendors. Admission is $35.

Editor's note: The Cape May Designer Show House has been canceled. Please note this does not apply to the one-day Cape May Designer House Tour on September 22, which is separate from the 2018 Cape May Designer Show House.
