Open to college juniors and seniors and graduate students, IIDA NY’s Annual Student Design Awards celebrated young interior design talent last week. Students were asked to submit a maximum of two projects that “showcased their creativity and ingenuity,” in addition to a design statement that outlined the challenge, solution and inspiration involved in the work. Four students won top honors, and another five earned honorable mentions for their design projects.
The winners include Jessica Li of Fashion Institute of Technology with NYC Missionary Training Center; Ilya Pulyaev, of New York School of Interior Design, for Everlane Boutique; Ahn Yongchang, of Pratt Institute, for Lever House X Sotheby’s Satellite Office; and Fu Yu-Hsiang, of New York School of Interior Design, for Everlane Concept Store.
The judging panel included Katie Michael-Battaglia, president of IIDA NY and design director at Nemo Tile & Stone; Rebecca Dorris Steiger, past president of IIDA NY and associate partner at ZGF Architects LLP; Ginger Gilden, president elect of IIDA NY and senior designer at IA Interior Architects; Alejandra Munizaga, Knowledge Forum director at IIDA NY and owner of Alejandra Munizaga Interiors; Suzette Rhodes, Leaders Breakfast director at IIDA NY and New York sales lead at Herman Miller; Hazel Siegel, Knowledge Forum director at IIDA NY and owner of Atelier Hazel Siegel; and G. Steven South, Color Invasion co-chair at IIDA NY and senior associate at Perkins+Will.
