Lego Group, 14+ Foundation earn Architizer A+Awards

The third annual Architizer A+Awards Gala drew winners from more than 100 countries and 150 companies and firms on May 14 at the Highline Stages in New York City. This year’s Special Achievement Awards recognized contributions to architecture and design, with categories including Advocate (winner: The Lego Group), Firm of the Year (Reiulf Ramstad Architects), “Dare Greatly” presented by Cadillac (SsD), Product (August Smart Lock) and Impact (14+ Foundation). Some of this year’s jurors included Rem D. Koolhaas, Ian Schrager, Lisa Phillips of the New Museum; Yves Behar of fuseproject; Bjarke Ingels of BIG; John Edelman of Design Within Reach; Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects; Marcus Fairs of Dezeen, and others.

“We wanted to try to make an awards program for architecture that was more than just a bunch of architects telling other architects that they're really good at architecture, because we have a lot of those in this world,” said Architizer co-founder Marc Kushner in his opening remarks. “What we wanted to do was create an awards program that told the entire world—that reminded the world—about how important architecture is. That what architects do shapes every space, in every place where people spend their lives.”

Some of the year's product winners included the Jury winner Lap(r)is by Van den Weghe for Accessories; FoldUp™ Window (patent pending) from HeartWood Fine Windows and Doors, a Pop Choice winner for Windows; and seating from Keilhauer, Arper, Allsteel, Davis Furniture, and Steelcase. Lighting winners included the VESSEL by 3M™ + Todd Bracher within the Decorative Lighting category, as well as Solarpuff from Solight Design, a Jury winner in the Lighting Accessories category.
