On April 20, the eve of the annual Housing Works Design on a Dime benefit, the Groundbreaker Awards Dinner will honor activist Mary Fisher and designer Jamie Drake in an evening hosted by HGTV host Genevieve Gorder.
In recognition of his 10-plus years of philanthropic work with Housing Works, Drake will receive the Elle Decor Heart of Design Award. He has designed vignettes for Design on a Dime and is currently chair of The Alpha Workshops. Elle Decor editor in chief Michael Boodro will present the award to Drake. Fisher is being honored for her advocacy work on the part of HIV/AIDS patients. As an actress, artist, author and political activist, Fisher has discussed how she lives with HIV and has written books and used art and design to raise funds for the cause. She will receive the award from Rosie O’Donnell.
“Jamie and Mary exemplify what Housing Works stands for,” says Design on a Dime founding chair and designer James Huniford. “We’re so proud to honor the work they have done and to have these amazing allies stand with us in our common mission to end AIDS and to provide housing and lifesaving services to those who are living with HIV/AIDS.”
