Lisa Kanning’s vista-enhancing blend of bronze-tinted glass, smoky quartz sconces and cork wallcoverings

In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.

Lisa Kanning looks to the earth and all its natural beauty for interior inspiration. The Brooklyn-based designer draws from the landscape surrounding her projects to craft texture-infused spaces. “I love coming into the process early so we’re able to create a palette literally from the ground up,” she tells Business of Home.

She fashioned her current mood board accordingly. Designed with a client’s Telluride, Colorado, residence in mind, the scheme is grounded in rich neutrals and organic materials. “We started with brushed European oak flooring and incorporated various tonal colors and textures—but nothing that stops the eye from flowing easily throughout the space,” says Kanning.

The final flat lay showcases a symphony of earthy hues and tactile finishes, ranging from tawny faux fur fabric to metallic-accented abaca windowcoverings. “This is a modern mountain home that maximizes incredible views without sacrificing warmth,” says Kanning. “The right balance of glass juxtaposed with warm tones and textural elements is key.”

Here, the designer breaks down the details, from twig-shaped coat hooks to amethyst gemstones.
