Dedar has a new CEO, Amanda Hesser steps down from Food52, and more

From design firms to trade brands, read on for BOH’s monthly roundup of arrivals and departures in design, manufacturing, media and more.

Contemporary Italian fabric and wallcovering brand Dedar welcomed Beth Holman as its new CEO for North America. Holman joins from British fabric and furniture company Sanderson Design Group, where she has been president and CEO of the company’s North American division since 2019. Before that, she had deep roots in the fashion world, holding executive roles focused on wholesale and retail sales at brands like Celine and Roberto Cavalli.

Wallcovering and surfacing brand Wolf-Gordon announced Chase Taylor as its new design director. The New York–based textile designer and artist will lead the design of Wolf-Gordon’s wallcoverings and textile collections out of its Manhattan headquarters. Taylor brings to the new position her previous experiences as director of upholstery at Carnegie and senior designer at Pollack.

Retail & Manufacturing
Henricksen, the Illinois-based office furniture manufacturer with locations across the U.S., appointed Gosia Humes as the new general manager of its Washington, D.C., office. Prior to joining the company, Humes was the senior vice president at Baltimore-based office furniture company Price Modern. One of Henricksen’s subsidiary brands, contract furniture brand COFCO, has promoted vice president of sales Erin Costello to general manager of the Philadelphia office.

Design & Architecture
Last month, Pico Rivera, California–based national design, furniture and staging brand Vesta Home acquired Palm Beach Gardens interior design firm Krista + Home. The new interior design division will be led by the Florida firm’s founder, Krista Alterman. Brent Hartman, who recently joined Vesta as director of interior design from Studio Volpe, will continue to lead design projects in other markets. The company is also welcoming several new staging designers, including Brianna Smith, Bryanna Warman, Alex Ventura and Ryan Worthington from Los Angeles–based home staging company Meridith Baer; Jillian McMahon from Quadra Furniture & Spaces; and Jaclyn Murawski and Amber Cicardo from New York–based luxury real estate staging firm Interior Marketing Group.

Design, engineering and consultancy business Arcadis appointed Phanie Gapinski as principal of its Washington, D.C.–based hospitality design studio. Gapinski has worked as a freelance hospitality design consultant and was previously the director for the U.S. and Canada Marriott Hotels, a position she held from 2018 until January. The firm also appointed Vincent Laino as principal in its New York workplace-design studio; he joins from Green Light Architecture, where he was principal from 2008 up until March.

Architects Sarah Harper of Harper Design Projects and Richard Drummond Davis have merged their firms and launched Harper + Drummond Davis Architects, a full-service architectural firm based in the Dallas Design District. The duo brings decades of experience to the new firm and will specialize in contemporary and modern design and period and traditional architecture.

New York–based firm TPG Architecture elevated Christina Faley, Jon Fox and Katie Kanakos to managing associates and Sarah Whalen to creative director, all within its retail studio. Claudia Opel was promoted to managing associate in the company’s health care studio.

Gary McBournie is rebranding his Boston-based firm to McBournie Richards, formalizing a 15-year professional partnership with his life partner, Bill Richards. The duo will lead the design aspects of the firm as well as business development, sourcing and operations.

Dorothy Weise has been appointed interior design department lead at Chapter, a full-service design-build firm based in New York. Weise joins from Form Kitchens, where she was design team lead for trade and multifamily business.

New York–based architecture, interior design and landscaping firm ODA hired Álvaro García Resta as its urban design advisor. Resta brings more than a decade of experience as the secretary of urban development for the city of Buenos Aires.

Media & PR
Amanda Hesser, the co-founder and executive chair of Food52, has stepped down. Hesser founded the site 16 years ago alongside Merrill Stubbs, who stepped away in 2020. Hesser will be focusing on her new venture, a Substack newsletter called Homeward. Food52 will continue to be led by CEO Erika Ayers Badan.

After nearly 19 years at House & Garden and 11 as editor, Hatta Byng has announced she’s stepping down from her position at the end of June. David Nicholls, the publication’s deputy editor since 2015, will step up as interim editor.

Los Angeles– and New York–based firm The Consultancy PR announced a string of new hirings and promotions. Francesco Tribuzio has been promoted to senior vice president from vice president and head of business development; Grace Stephens, previously at 5WPR, is now a senior account executive; Victoria McDougal has been promoted to account director from associate account director; and Chloe La Motta has been promoted to account manager after holding the role of senior account executive.
