Sunbrella: The Future of Shade 2016, a contest that asks entrants to use the Sunbrella fabrics as a “key component of the built structure in a unique and innovative way,” is now accepting submissions from all firms and individuals (including students) involved in architecture, landscape architecture, and design.

The three Future of Shade contest categories are:

Humanitarian Challenge “Envision a temporary shelter that can be easily transported and rapidly deployed in warm weather climates throughout the world.”

Wellness Garden Challenge “Create a habitable yet protected outdoor space that is a healing environment for individuals working toward wellness at a cancer treatment center.”

Building Shade Challenge “Deliver a shade-focused solution to the issue that peak daytime sun presents for Paradise Plaza and the adjoining Paseo Ponti in the Miami Design District.”

Now in its fourth year, the competition will honor one winner in each of the three categories with a $10,000 grand prize. Additionally, Miami Design District members may select one of the Building Shade submissions to be built as part of the recently renovated Paradise Plaza and Paseo Ponti in 2016.

Learn more and apply by March 20.
