Interior designer Mariette Himes Gomez and architect Charles Jencks will be the next recipients of the Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award and the Thomas N. “I am so honored to receive the New York School of Interior Design’s Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement award,” said Himes Gomez. “I owe it all to Alexander Breckenridge, my NYSID professor, and Albert Hadley, a friend and employer who allowed and encouraged me to develop my personal design style.”

“I’m accepting this award not only for my landscape designs, but also for my role in co-founding Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres, which will be the subject of an exhibition at NYSID from March 7 – April 25,” said Jencks. “It’s wonderful to be honored in this way and to have the school recognize how landscape design and interior design can influence and complement each other.”

The dinner and awards ceremony will be hosted by benefit co-chairs interior designer and NYSID trustee Alexa Hampton, as well as Newell Turner, editor-in-chief of the Hearst Design Group.

“We are thrilled to recognize Mariette Himes Gomez and Charles Jencks for their outstanding careers and considerable accomplishments,” said Patricia M. Sovern, chairman of the NYSID Board of Trustees. “The depth and breadth of their contributions to their fields exemplify NYSID’s guiding principle that successful design significantly improves human spirit, welfare, and well-being.”

Himes Gomez is renowned as a modern classicist whose fresh, understated spaces exemplify elegance and gracious living. She is also known for the furniture and furnishings she designs, as well as for her artwork. Her Upper East Side store “The Shop” carries her work, period furniture, paintings and books, including her own—Rooms: Creating Luxurious, Livable Spaces; Houses: Inside and Out; and Apartments: Defining Style. A NYSID alumna, she honed her skills at the offices of Edward Durrell Stone and Parish Hadley. She has been recognized as one of the AD 100 and by House Beautiful as a “Master of Design.”

Jencks divides his time between lecturing, writing and designing in the US, the UK and Europe. He is the author of the bestselling book The Language of Post-Modern Architecture. He has also written numerous books on contemporary arts and building, including What is Post-Modernism? and The Architecture of the Jumping Universe. In 2004 the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, won the Gulbenkian Prize for Museums for his design, Landform Ueda. Landform projects have also been completed in Europe, and his current concern is working with Cern on an iconographic and green project.

The dinner, which will be held at 583 Park Avenue in New York City, begins with a cocktail reception at 7:00 p.m. followed by the meal and awards ceremony at 8:00 p.m.

The dress is cocktail attire. Individual tickets are available at $750 and $1,500, and tables for 10 at $7,500, $15,000 and $25,000. For further information or to purchase tickets contact Elizabeth Gray Kogen at (212) 472-4197 or by email.
