In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.
Tim Pfeiffer loves the West Coast. Having just returned from a dayslong road trip along the California coastline, the co-founder of the Seattle-based firm Hoedemaker Pfeiffer is feeling especially inspired by the vistas. “From the redwood forests to the ocean beaches and sandy deserts, there’s a rugged enchantment to the scenery,” he tells Business of Home.
No surprise, then, that he fashioned his mood board with The Golden State’s landscapes in mind. Employing a well-balanced blend of burnt ambers and oranges with muted greens and tawny browns, Pfeiffer conjures the vibrant colors of the coastal environment. “Natural elements weave together in earthy richness,” he says of the palette. “The layers of this flat lay reflect the raw beauty of the land and sea.”
He describes the final scheme as “warm and vibrant,” punctuated by organic lines and natural materials, including handmade terra cotta tile and a solid wood display stand. Here, the designer breaks down the details, from brutalist pottery to striped performance upholstery.
