PDC's Westweek to feature Nancy Meyers, Kourtney Kardashian

“Hollywood & Design” is the theme of this year’s annual West Week event at the Pacific Design Center (PDC) in Los Angeles March 20 – 21, which features two days of star-studded events with appearances from Hollywood notables Nancy Meyers, Kourtney Kardashian and Courtney Thorne-Smith, as well as design icons Alexa Hampton, Barbara Barry, Amanda Nisbet, and many more.

Each event-filled day kicks off with a celebrity keynote at 10:00 a.m. in the Silver Screen theater. On Wednesday, author and designer Bradley Bayou will host a conversation with film director, producer and screenwriter Nancy Meyers, who will provide insight into her creative process and what has influenced her aesthetic. Degen Pener, Culture Editor of The Hollywood Reporter, will introduce the discussion. On Thursday, interior designer Jeff Andrews and his long-time client Kourtney Kardashian will discuss their successful partnership with California Home+Design Editor-in-Chief Erin Feher. Andrews will share his secrets on how to collaborate with A-list clients and keep them coming back for more, while Kardashian will reveal how she went from a reality show darling to the head of a style empire.

Following the keynotes, each day of market will be packed with product introductions, book signings and other panel discussions. Here’s a sneak peek at the line-up:

Wednesday, March 20

At 11:00 a.m. Fabricut will host Decorating and Living French with French General and transport guests to the French countryside with its latest collection, French General. Experience the inspiration behind this authentic, French-inspired collection from Kaari Meng, founder of French General.

Alexa Hampton

Also at 11, Kravet will host The Language of Interior Design with Alexa Hampton. As the daughter of Mark Hampton, Alexa grew up living and breathing design. She traveled the world discovering architecture and training her eye. Now one of America’s most influential designers, Alexa will provide a tour of gorgeous residences from her own portfolio. A reception and book signing for The Language of Interior Design will follow her presentation.

Also at 11:00 p.m., The Thomas Lavin Showroom will be hosting Architectural Digest West Coast editor Mayer Rus and Thomas Lavin for a conversation about how art, light, design and spirituality have shaped the 25–year career of designer James Magni. Magni's new book, Magni Modernism, is debuting in Los Angeles before it launches nationally. A champagne celebration and book signing will follow.

Eric Cohler

At 11:30 a.m. stop by Designer Monographs in the Blue Conference Center, Suite B259. Coast Magazine’s Editor at Large Alexandria Abramian and designers Eric Cohler (Cohler on Design), Jennifer Post (Pure Space: Elegant Minimalism) and Jeffry Weisman (Artful Decoration), will engage in a discussion about authoring design books.

At noon, Lee Jofa invites guests to Interplay: Creating Fusion Between the Worlds of Design, Art, and Fashion. Eric Cohler will give a lively discussion of how design, architecture, art, fashion and film are intertwined within the world of interior design.

Amanda Nisbet & Chuck Chewning

At noon, Donghia will host Redefining Neutral: Unexpected Color as the New Foundation for Dazzing Interiors. Join Donghia, Inc. Creative Director Chuck Chewning, interior designers Amanda Nisbet and Jeff Andrews, Benjamin Moore Color Trend Forecaster John Turner and moderator Krissa Rossbund for the discussion.

Robert Allen is hosting a pop-up color celebration at 1:00 p.m. Visit the showroom for a pop-up party where you can meet the design team, have your nails painted, enjoy festive fare, goodies and inspiration all in honor of their four favorite colors.

At 2:00 p.m. head to Duralee/Highland Court for The Art Behind Design with Laura Kirar and Arianne Nardo, Editor-in-Chief of Interiors Magazine. Kirar and Nardo will discuss Laura's artistic eye and the part it has played in the development of her interiors as well as her new fabric line for Highland Court. A dessert reception will follow.

Also at 2:00 p.m., Kneedler | Fauchere will toast to its 65th anniversary.

Courtney Thorne-Smith

At 3:00 p.m. the afternoon keynote presented by E! Entertainment and the ASID will discuss “How to be asked back to the party: The art of repeat business.” What is the secret to working on sophisticated residential design projects with highly discerning clients—and making the grade enough to be asked back for the second project, and even the third? It is certainly more than just showing up on time. Join E! Entertainment’s Catt Sadler as she sits down with Courtney Thorne-Smith (“Two and a Half Men,” CBS) her designer Monique Lafia and luxury builder Gary Drake to discuss the secret to repeat business. A reception will follow at A. Rudin, Suite G-172.

From 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Hokanson invites guests for cocktails, bites and a peek into your future with a guest Fortune Teller.

At 3:30 p.m. don’t miss Runway to the Thomas Lavin Showroom Zinc Textile, the Romo Group’s avant-garde line of fabrics, presents a stunning collection of couture-inspired interior fabrics featuring 12 exclusive images by legendary fashion illustrator René Gruau. With a broad flowing brushstroke and blocks of seductive color, Gruau masterfully captured the world of couture in his daring and exciting advertising images for Dior, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Harpers Bazaar and Vogue from the 1940s to the turn of the 21st century. Zinc’s Justin Marr relates how he channeled Gruau and the masters of couture as he designed bold colorful checks and over-sized boucle weaves in the spirit of Chanel, exquisite Pucciesque swirls printed on light, floaty silk and elegant velvet patterns usually reserved for apparel. A reception will follow.

At 4:00 p.m. Cowtan & Tout will host a preview of the new Larsen Collection.

At 4:15 Crestron will host a free CEU: The Art of Hiding Technology. This course reviews the three-pronged approach to hiding technology—advance planning, design philosophy, and product selection—available for minimizing the visual impact of electronics without compromising performance. You’ll see interactive examples as applied in the Crestron showroom. Presented by Ami Wright, Marketing Director. CEU credit: 0.1 1DCEC, 1.0AIA, NAHB or NARI.

The first day of West Week will conclude with the presentation of the Stars of Design Awards. Established over a decade ago at the PDC the Stars of Design Awards honor professionals who have achieved recognition in various fields of design. The honorees are highly regarded for their significant achievements and contributions to their profession.

Cohen & Jernigan of Gensler

This year’s winners include: Andy Cohen and Rob Jernigan of Gensler, architecture; Sean Adams and Noreen Morioka of Adams Morioka, graphic design; James Radin, interior design; Jay Griffith, urban design; and Tim Griffith, photography. The event takes place from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. at Red Seven. This event is private, by invitation only

Thursday, March 21

Gary Hutton & Michael Wollaeger

11:00 a.m. the Thomas Lavin Showroom will address “California: What Matters Now.” What are the key factors that make California a global leader in contemporary residential design and architecture? Does environment drive design here? Are California clients different? How can designers and architects thrive in California today? Join Ron Radziner, principal at Marmol Radziner Architects; celebrated designer Gary Hutton; and noted author and KCRW design commentator Frances Anderton for a lively discussion moderated by Interiors editorial director Michael Wollaeger. A reception will follow.

Join Donghia at 11:30 a.m. for History of 20th and 21st Century Handcrafted Wallpaper. Laura Romanoff will present an overview of 20th and 21st century wallcoverings, illustrating the canon of work, trends and usage.

Barbara Barry

At noon Baker Knapp & Tubbs will introduce the new outdoor collection by Barbara Barry: streamlined, contemporary and exceedingly comfortable. The 15 pieces of the Barbara Barry Outdoor Collection were designed with casual living in mind. Join Martha Rebolledo for collection viewing and light refreshments will be served.

At 2:00 p.m. Steven Cooper, president of Cooper Pacific Kitchens, will discuss innovative applications. New appliances include leather, glass, lighting, accessories and surfaces. A reception will follow in the showroom.

The afternoon keynote will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Blue Conference Center. Guests are invited to join Publisher Jennifer Polachek of Interiors California (formerly Angeleno Interiors) as she talks with leading professionals in the top luxury services industries regarding the art of cultivating a world-class clientele and catering to their highly discerning tastes and desires.

Luxury real estate broker Mauricio Umansky of The Agency; super yacht and estate interior designer Yvonne Colacion of Colacion Studio; Malibu's signature architect Douglas Burdge, AIA, of Burdge & Associates Architects; as well as other special guests will discuss what it is like to service high-net worth individuals and properly satisfy their sophisticated expectations. A reception will follow at HOLLY HUNT, Suite B377.

2013 AD Oscar Greenroom

At 5:00 p.m. head back to Baker Knapp & Tubbs as the showroom celebrates the furnishing of this year’s Architectural Digest Oscar Greenroom. Guests are invited for champagne and hors d’oeuvres to experience the Art-Deco inspired Greenroom first-hand.
