Global Excellence Award winners announced at Maison d'Objet

The winners for the International Interior Design Association's (IIDA) first-annual Global Excellence Awards were revealed at a special presentation during Maison d'Objet on January 22 in Paris.

The Global Excellence Awards is an international Interior Design competition honoring the best in Interior Design projects from around the world. The winning entry was selected from a pool of design firms from 21 different countries.

The 2010 judging panel included Giorgio Borruso of Giorgio Borruso Design; Patrick McEneany of BMW Group DesignworksUSA; Dan Menchions of II BY IV Design Associates; and Ben Watson of Herman Miller.

In the restaurants category, Entasis Architects won for the OCA Restaurant in Mexico City, Mexico.

In the retail group, German-based Ippolito Fleitz Group - Identity Architects won for the Belfry Tashkent in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The best of competition was the Heliport VIP Lounge, Hong Kong designed by Mission & Associates Limited.

“The [Heliport VIP Lounge] space really suggests movement, for a project centered around transportation,” commented Watson. Giorgio Borruso added, “The space really has a double function; it actually guides visitors with a sense of movement and transportation.”
