Atlanta designers gear up for Discover ADAC next week

Commemorating ADAC's first anniversary of opening its doors to the public, Discover ADAC (Oct. 14-18) will feature more than 35 events, keynote presentations, showroom receptions and a third installment of ADAC: Behind the Windows. Notable speakers and design icons attending include Timothy Corrigan, Sarah Richardson, Jan Showers, Michael S. Smith, Steven Stolman Jennifer Boles, Ellie Cullman, Mario Buatta and Susanna Salk.

“What makes DISCOVER ADAC unique is the caliber of design talent who will participate,“ said ADAC general manager, Katie Belveal. “We have curated a special week for Southeast’s design community to share their trade secrets and allow the public to dig even deeper into the world of design trends that the upcoming season has to offer.”

Here’s a closer look at each of the keynote presentations:

Digital Designers panel discussion moderated by Dering Hall editorial director, Carly Sullivan—Monday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium

The panel—featuring top interior designers Carter Kay of Carter Kay Interiors; Melanie Milner of The Design Atelier, Inc.; William Peace of Peace Design; Beth Webb of Beth Webb Interiors; and Amy Wikman of BJORK STUDIO—will share and compare their favorite digital resources to research products for their projects, extend their own brands, and reach new clients. A reception will follow in the Designer Lounge, First Floor Atrium.

A Visit to Chateau du Grand Luce: Restoring & Decorating a Great Country House with Timothy Corrigan–Tuesday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium

Award-winning interior designer Timothy Corrigan provides inspiration and instruction in the art of comfortably elegant decoration, offering indispensable advice on how to live in historic homes in a modern way. A reception and booksigning will follow at JANUS et Cie, ADAC West, Suite A1.

Interiors, Inspirations, and Signature Style with Sarah Richardson—Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium

Sarah Richardson, designer and star of HGTV’s Sarah’s House and Sarah 101, will introduce her latest collection of fabrics for Kravet. Attendees will get a first look at her new collection, learn what inspires her, and how her signature style and design philosophy have transformed her business and inspired clients and fans all over the world. A reception will follow at Kravet, Suite 139.

Celebrate Interior Designer Jan Showers—Wednesday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium

Jan Showers will walk the audience through her new book, Glamorous Retreats. Embarking on a journey from the mountains of Colorado to the beaches of Nantucket and Harbor Island to the ranches of Arizona and cities of Toronto and San Francisco, she illuminates spaces with imaginative details and an uncanny ability to imbue homes with the spirit of their surroundings. A reception will follow at Ainsworth-Noah & Associates, Suite 518.

Home Away From Home panel discussion moderated by Frances Schultz—Wednesday, October 16 at 3:00 p.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium

Journalist, tastemaker, television personality, and world traveler Frances Schultz will lead a panel of renowned interior designers in a lively discussion about designing for luxury resort homes and hotels. Panelists include Chuck Chewning, creative director of Donghia, Inc.; Susan Ferrier, principal of McAlpine Booth & Ferrier Interiors, Inc.; Amanda Nisbet, founder of Amanda Nisbet Design, Inc.; and John Oetgen, owner of Oetgen Design Incorporated. Following the presentation, Donghia (Suite 317) will host a cocktail meet-and-greet with the panelists. Nisbet will be signing copies of her book, Dazzling Design.

Building Beauty: the Alchemy of Design with Michael S. Smith—Thursday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium

Acclaimed-designer Michael S. Smith discusses themes from his latest book, Building Beauty: the Alchemy of Design as it relates to American design today. Smith will walk attendees through his vision for the perfect American house and explain the process behind his design philosophy. From the initial renovation to the finishing details, he will provide a complete and up-to-date design vocabulary that every homeowner and design aficionado would be keen to know. A reception will follow at Ainsworth-Noah & Associates, Suite 518.

Steven Stolman and Jennifer Boles keynote presentation—Thursday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor

Jennifer Boles, author and founder of “The Peak of Chic,” will interview Scalamandré President Steven Stolman about his new book, Scalamandré: Haute Décor. Chronicling America’s most extraordinary properties, among them the White House, the Metropolitan Opera House and Atlanta's prestigious Decorators’ Show House and Gardens, Boles and Stolman will discuss Scalamandré's illustrious 84 years and those tastemakers, individuals, places and events that contributed to the legendary textile house. A reception and booksigning will follow at Scalamandré, Suite 407.

A Conversation with Ellie Cullman and Mario Buatta, moderated by Susanna Salk—Thursday, October 17 at 3:00 p.m. ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium

Renowned interior designers, friends, and colleagues Cullman, Founder of Cullman & Kravis and Buatta, the legendary designer nicknamed the “Prince of Chintz,” discuss their careers, the ever-changing landscape of design and decorating, their longtime friendship, and their new books respectively titled The Detailed Interior and Mario Buatta: Fifty Years of American Decoration. A reception will follow at Travis & Company, Suite 128.

Monday, October 14

Join Innovations in Wallcoverings (Suite 313) as Johnna Barrett, architect and designer of Barrett Designs, Inc. shares her remarkable design portfolio and the benefits of using commercial wall coverings in residential interiors. In addition, an Innovations product expert will debut their new fall collection.

Tuesday, October 15

2:00 p.m.

Guests are invited to Robert Allen (Suite 401) for an anniversary celebration and champagne reception as they toast to 75 colorful years and look to the future with the new Solids and Color Library Collections.

2:30 p.m.

Stop by Grizzel & Mann (Suite 120) for a discussion with Joni Vanderslice, president and owner of J Banks Design Group. Vanderslice will explain how the psychology of color preferences can be applied to interior design and how colors can be used to induce behavioral changes. A light reception will follow.

3:00 p.m.

Join R. Hughes Atelier (Suite 433) for a conversation with James Magni about how art, light, design, and spirituality have inspired and shaped his 25-year career. A reception and booksigining for his new book Magni Modernism will follow.

4:00 p.m.

Christian Liaigre and Jerry Pair of Jerry Pair (Suite 508) will be hosting a cocktail reception and tour of the new Liaigre gallery with Jason Ryan, CEO of Christian Liaigre.

Wednesday, October 16

10:30 a.m.

Join Ernest Gaspard & Associates (Suite 109) as they host an all-day event for Peace of Threads. Peace of Threads is a non-profit organization employing refugee women that have fled from war and persecution. They will be showcasing their beautiful one-of-a-kind purses and accessories made with repurposed ADAC designer fabrics. Desserts and drinks will be served. At 1:00 p.m. Mathieu Pintout, vice president of Casamance will present the new fall launch for Ernest Gaspard & Associates.

1:00 p.m.

Stop by Kravet (Suite 139) to hear the mother/daughter team of Bobbie Pike and Kim Oberheu of PFI, Plants Forever Incorporated, share their talents and tips for holiday décor.

2:00 p.m.

Join Fabricut (Suite 307) and professional wallpaper installer Tom Williams as he demonstrates how to correctly hang wall coverings. Light refreshments will be served.

Celebrate Holland and Company’s (Suite 238) newest collection from Julian Chichester. Enjoy refreshments and an assortment of pies from the Pie Shop.

4:00 p.m.

Guests are invited to i-Homes Atlanta (Suite 311) for i-NNOVATIONS “Smart” ART! Meet the artist SPOON and see what happens when you merge art with technology. Enjoy cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres while experiencing the state-of-the-art “Smart Home” turned gallery.

Thursday, October 17

2:00 p.m.

Martin Nash (Suite 308) presents an enlightening discussion with Chip Cheatham, president of Chip and Company, about the evolution of global and natural art as accessory. Cheatham's insights on the importance of shadow and light, along with the exploration of the world, will redirect the boundaries of accessorizing with layers of art that has life and tells a story.

The following events will be going on daily throughout the week: 

ADAC will unveil the third annual exhibit of “ADAC: Behind the Windows” on October 14. Local designers, nominated by ADAC showrooms, have created stunning six-months in the works installations, sourcing from the breadth of luxury products available at ADAC.

Stop by the Duralee showroom (Suite 125) for light refreshments and a special look at the the new Duralee Casegoods Collection.

30 Meeting Suzanis are hand-loomed and hand-embroidered one-of-a-kind silk textiles which will be available for immediate purchase at Dogwood Fabrics (Suite 325).

Landscape designer and owner of GARDEN, Matthew Klyn, transforms J Nelson (Suite 417) into a lush garden showcase.

Moattar, Ltd. Finer Rugs (Suite 314) is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. To mark the occasion, guests are invited to enjoy champagne while viewing the newest collections of Oushaks and Khotans.
