Members of 46 of ASID’s 48 chapters were present for the society’s 2015 Chapter Leadership Conference in Boston, held July 16 to 18. Training and networking—along with the society’s 40th anniversary celebration—were on the agenda, which ended with an awards gala and auction that raised over $57,000. “This conference highlighted one of the great strengths of ASID,” said DJ Johnson, director, chapter program development. “It brought a diverse group of designers and industry partners together from across the country to share their passion and vision for how to make ASID and its 48 chapters stronger.”

A hallmark of the conference, the State of the Society, presented by Randy Fiser, ASID’s CEO, discussed the impact of design.  “Design is no longer an afterthought. It has become a vital tool for addressing fundamental social issues in healthcare, education, sustainability and conservation, safety, resiliency, and equal access,” said Fiser. He also confirmed that the organization would continue to support education and engagement programming, such as through GO PRO, which targets students and emerging design pros, and at industry events such as High Point Market, ICFF, NeoCon and Dwell on Design. The State address also launched ASID Academy, an online and always-accessible catalog of courses, videos and papers that also features direct reporting to IDCEC, eliminating the need for self-reporting.
