Maker Magic
January 13, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Join Business of Home editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen for a behind-the-scenes look at three of the most impressive maker studios and historic decorative arts archives in Paris. Watch as highly skilled artisans turn fabric into art at Atelier Lebuisson; adapt centuries-old wood paneling into present-day masterpieces at Féau Boiseries; and transform rye straw into exquisite marquetry at Ateliers Lison de Caunes. Living proof that mass production will never rival the artistry of handmade pieces, these legendary workshops are as vital today as when they were founded. Come see for yourself, and leave inspired to create truly authentic interiors in the new year.
Sèvres Manufactory Tour
January 14, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
On this exclusive excursion, Business of Home travels just outside the city to Sèvres, France’s leader in luxury porcelain. Attendees will enjoy a tour of a former royal factory, where some of the world’s most remarkable porcelain objets d’art have been handcrafted since 1740, witnessing along the way practices rich in savoir faire, including the production of porcelain pastes in the mill, the technique of “turning” in the grand atelier, and the art of brush painting and gold burnishing in the decoration department. The event will conclude in the showroom, giving attendees the opportunity to view pieces of Sèvres porcelain while mingling with BOH editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen and other guests over coffee.
Paris for the Senses
January 15, 9 a.m.
Business of Home has teamed up with marketing strategist and American-in-Paris Ericka Saurit for a day of sensory inspiration and style in the City of Light. Led by Saurit, the tour will begin with a sweet taste of history at Stohrer, Paris’s oldest patisserie. Just a few rues away, tucked within the belle epoque gem Galerie Vivienne, the story behind artisanal fragrances is revealed at perfume house Mad et Len. In her Marais studio, interior designer Jessica Helgerson shares an intimate glimpse into the cross-cultural creative process. Then, following lunch, the indulgent outing will end at Phelippeau Tapissier, a sixth-generation textile and upholstery atelier. For designers longing to immerse themselves in experiences with a French flair that touch on all the senses, this sybaritic stroll can’t be missed.
