PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Company: Lawson-Fenning
Duration: Full-time
Date Posted: 08/11/26
Category: Product Design
Location: Los Angeles
Salary: 100-150k
Job Description

WHAT YOU’LL OWN
Product Development
• Own the development path from design handoff through production

release: quoting, sampling, prototyping, iteration, and launch-
readiness sign-off.

• Lead supplier selection and qualification for new product in
partnership with sourcing, and own initial quoting and negotiation.
• Own cost build on new product — the cost stack behind every SKU,
and the inputs that make it defensible.
• Run the stage-gate process for launch: what has to be true, and
who has to say so, before a product is released.
• Partner with Design and with Quality & Technical Standards to
resolve buildability, cost, and compliance questions during
development rather than after.
Product Information & Data Ownership
• Own the product record end to end — creation at launch, accuracy
through life, and disposition at retirement.
• Own the integrity of product data in QuickBooks, Cin7, and Airtable
at birth: SKU structure, variant logic, BOM accuracy, attributes, and
specifications.
• Own spec sheets and the product-facing documentation the rest of
the business works from.

• Own product change control: route changes, secure cross-
functional agreement, and ensure every downstream system

reflects the change.
• Establish the data standards and the governance that keeps the
record accurate as volume grows.
Product Management & Lifecycle
• Own the pricing stack — cost, retail, margin — and serve as the
source of truth for the numbers behind it.
• Manage product performance across the lifecycle: margin stability,
cost drift, defect trends, age, and end-of-life cadence.
• Recommend rationalization, repricing, and retirement based on
evidence.
• Partner with Merchandising and Sales on assortment decisions with
the operational and cost picture attached.

Job Requirements

Cross-Functional Leadership
• Serve as the connection between Design, Production, Purchasing &

Planning, Merchandising, Sales, and Finance on anything product-
level.

• Lead launch and product review meetings; keep creative intent and
operational reality aligned.
• Communicate cost, timing, and feasibility implications early and
plainly.
Build & Lead the Function
• Build product development and product management into a defined
function with process, cadence, and measurement.
• Convert established practice into a repeatable process — this is a
stated priority of the role, not a background task.
• Develop the team as it grows.
KEY METRICS
Where measurable today:
• Launch execution — on time, complete, with accurate data at
release
• Product record accuracy and completeness across the active
assortment
• Development cycle time from design handoff to production release
• Cost accuracy at launch against actuals
As reporting infrastructure matures:
• Margin stability and cost drift by product and collection
• Product lifecycle health — age profile, EOL cadence, rationalization
rate
• Data exception rates across product systems
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• 6+ years in product development, product operations, product
management, or technical product roles in a consumer product
environment.
• Experience owning product data and product records, and the
discipline that keeps them accurate at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to build a process where little exists — you
have set up a system, not only worked inside one.
• Working knowledge of furniture construction, materials, and
manufacturing methods.
• Command of cost build-up and product costing; comfort defending
a number.
• Strong analytical skills; advanced Excel and comfort interpreting
and structuring data models.
• Experience with ERP and product data systems (we run Cin7 Omni,
QuickBooks, and Airtable); adaptability in an evolving systems
environment matters more than any specific platform.

About our Company

Lawson-Fenning designs and builds furniture in Los Angeles. The
largest branch of our business is the LF Collection of handmade
furniture. We supplement our own designs with vintage 20th-century
works and well-edited home goods we think are missing from the
marketplace: limited-release ceramics, tabletop, and gifts.
Our design work is the foundation of the business. This role owns what
happens next — taking a design from creative intent through
development and into the business: supplier selection and quoting, cost
build-up, sampling and prototyping, product record creation, launch
readiness, and lifecycle management through to retirement. We're
growing quickly, and that path needs to become a defined, repeatable
process.
This is a working manager role. You'll build the process, run it, and
grow the function as the assortment scales. Success is measured by
launches that land on time with complete and accurate data, costs that
are known and stable, and a product record the business can work
from with confidence.
