Reporting to the Principal and working in close collaboration with the Senior Designer and Senior Project Manager, the Intermediate Designer contributes to multiple high-end residential projects across all phases, from concept development through installation. You will take direction on larger projects while independently managing appropriately scaled work as your experience develops. This position requires a minimum of two days per week in our Manhasset office.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in interior design or architecture from an accredited program and brings 3 to 5 years of experience in high-end residential interior design. They have familiarity with luxury residential vendors and the NYC and tri-state area trade market. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite is required. SketchUp and Revit experience is a plus, and Studio Designer or Design Manager familiarity is preferred. They can contribute to 3D renderings and design presentations that communicate design intent clearly, and they have experience working across multiple phases of a project including concept, sourcing, procurement, and installation. Exposure to custom furniture, millwork, and finish specification is expected. Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort in client-facing settings are a must. They are highly organized with solid project management instincts and attention to detail, and they can manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment. The Intermediate Designer at K.A. Murphy Interiors contributes to multiple high-end residential projects across all phases, supporting senior staff while developing the skills and confidence to take on increasing ownership over time.
Support the development and execution of design concepts for high-end residential projects. Assist in creating comprehensive space plans, budgets, fixture and finish selections, and furnishing sourcing with a focus on tile, stone, wood, and kitchen and bath design. Produce CAD floor plans, elevations, and millwork drawings, and contribute to 3D renderings and client presentations.
Conduct field surveys and site measurements and maintain thorough project documentation including specifications, schedules, and vendor contacts. Assist in preparing proposal packages and client presentations. Generate purchase orders and follow up on orders through completion.
Attend and prepare notes for client meetings and support clear communication and task tracking across all projects. Coordinate with vendors, trades, and contractors to keep projects on schedule and on budget. Assist with and eventually lead project installations, ensuring all required materials and documentation are in place.
Build positive relationships with clients and vendor partners, always representing the firm with professionalism and care. Contribute to studio culture and the mentorship of junior staff as experience grows.

K.A. Murphy Interiors offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 annually. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, and genuine opportunities for advancement as the firm grows.
