By Staff

It’s high season in South Florida and the design community will be making its way to the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) to celebrate the annual Winter Market Jan. 30 and 31, which will be full of inspiring events, products and people.

DCOTA will shine the spotlight on some of the industry’s leading design pros with the seventh-annual Stars of Design Awards and the second-annual Stars on the Rise Awards, to be held at the design center on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Cohler & Adler

The 2013 honorees include: Interior design: Eric Cohler; Architecture: Bernando Fort-Brescia; Product design: Jonathan Adler; Landscape design: Stanley Matz; Photography: Seth Browarnik; Art: Jorge Bianco; and Lifetime achievement: Emilia Karram.

Paladino & Kirar

Stars on the Rise honors five young designers who have already made a significant mark on the design world. They are: Gage Hartung, Alfred Karram Jr., Laura Kirar, Matthew MacDonald, Allison Paladino and Sabrina Vela.

A noteworthy panel of industry professionals and members of the national, regional and south Florida media selected the winners who will be honored on the first evening of DCOTA’s Winter Market at 6:30 p.m. followed by a champagne toast.

Kicking off the first day of market, Joy Longhino of Modern Luxury Media’s South Florida Interiors Magazine will moderate a panel of designers including Cohler, Adler, and Kirar. They will discuss the meaning of true innovation and how it affects ideals, products and the future of design.

PPM Collections will preview the newest collections of furniture, lighting, bedding and more. Grange will host an open house in honor of its new showroom manager, Ryan Locke. Duralee will toast Kirar and the Stars of Design in its showroom prior to the awards ceremony.

On the second day of market, Thursday, Jan. 31, Anne M. Owen of Modern Luxury Media’s Miami Magazine will moderate a design industry-inspired fashion event. Guests will be able to view interior designers’ creations along with the participating showrooms’ products. Then, bid on items at the fashion show to benefit charity.

Afterwards, the second floor of Building C will host a ‘block party’ for guests to explore showrooms including: Eggersmann, Carriage House, Edelman Leather and more.

Michael Taylor Designs will host an afternoon reception with owner of Avrett handcrafted furniture and lighting, Peyton Avrett.

Also, be sure to join the following showrooms for open houses throughout market: Bang & Olufsen, Brunschwig & Fils, Cowtan & Tout, Pindler & Pindler, ROMO, Judith Norman Collection, Total Window and Ebanista.
