Rebecca Atwood’s year is already jam-packed: There’s the bedding collection, launching this morning, then her first-ever retail space, opening in late April or early May. She’s expanding her offerings in a number of categories (think: a new design in four colorways for her embroidered fabrics, new colorways, including yellow and cobalt, in existing patterns for fabrics, and several new wallpapers, including two grasscloths), as well as a slew of bedding, fabric and wallpaper to debut in the fall.
The Brooklyn-based designer tells EAL that the time for retail is now. “Right now is the right time for retail because there is so much change happening in retail. I think there’s a real opportunity to create a different experience. With the launch of our bedding line, it felt more important than ever that we have a space where our customers can come in to see and feel the product. I want to be able to provide more support with inspiring our customers to create beautiful, personal spaces.”
Her 600-square-foot space in NoLIta, in New York, is still in the process of being designed.
“I’m working with my good friend Kate Hamilton Gray—she’s currently a designer at Studio DB. She’s really talented and has been helping me navigate creating a space that reflects our story. We’ll have a space for interior designers to have meetings with clients, as well as for us to help customers with their design choices.”
The space will carry her brand’s full collection of fabrics, wallpapers, pillows and bedding. “We plan to represent our full line so that our customers can come in and see and touch everything we offer,” explains Atwood. “We’ll also offer free shipping, so if we don’t have stock of something, it will ship right to our customer.”
