Described as an “all screens network multiverse,” the Design Network will provide a database of home design video content that is entertaining, inspirational and instructional.

Brothers Jason and Jeff Harris, of Furnitureland South, and Lance Hanish and Klaus Paulsen, of the marketing firm CNA Sophis, are the masterminds behind the project.

“I have always believed in the power of video as the ultimate way to inspire and share,” said Jason Harris. “It brings movement, depth and life to the home.”

The network will be comprised of a website, a mobile app and a television icon similar to that of Netflix or Hulu and will be available through smart television screens that have Internet access.

“It's a unique point in time right now. Entertainment is changing, and it’s all about screens,” said Jason. “So, I asked myself how do we leverage the amazing technology that’s out there and serve up design entertainment for the home—and make it high-end and fashionable? And I came up with the Design Network concept.”

The network aims to align the best designers, architects, furniture purveyors, video producers and home enthusiasts together to produce video content and show ideas for the network. Anyone may upload clips for review and if they meet the Design Network standards they will have a chance for viewers to like and promote them.

“Our vision is to turn traditional television upside down,” said Jason. "It’s a hybrid effort, we will produce content but we really want to allow for user content. So people are seeing what is important to them and really what they want to see. “

By offering on-demand content in a new, relevant way and by reaching the viewer through a multitude of screens, anywhere and at any time, the Design Network will provide the opportunity for the home furnishings industry to become a dynamic leader in the entertainment and technology platforms.

Jason describes his viewer simply as “her,” anyone who is sophisticated, is interested in the home and cares about fashion and lifestyle.

“Design does not have to be out of reach, that’s the point that I want to make,” said Jason. ”It’s not just for wealthy people. It's for the people who get it, who love fashion, love design. This is something for everyone.”

The Design Network is set to launch on Jan. 7, 2013 at thedesignnetwork.com.
