Kips Bay names 18 designers for spring show house

Eighteen interior designers and architects will participate in the 41st Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House at the Sharp Townhouse at 161 East 64th Street in New York City, open May 7 - June 4.

“We are honored to have such an accomplished team of designers and architects and look forward to seeing how each chooses to transform his or her assigned room. With this impressive team, we hope to surpass this year’s fund-raising goal for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club which has a tremendous impact on both our region and the nation’s youth,” said Bunny Williams, interior designer and this year’s Show House Chair.

Designers and architects participating in this year’s Decorator Show House include: Andrew Suvalsky Designs, Barbara Ostrom Associates, Christopher Peacock, Dineen Architecture + Design PC, Eve Robinson Associates, Felicia Zwebner Design, Garcia / Maldonado, Inc., Gomez Associates, Huniford Design Studio, Jack Levy Design, Judy King Interiors, Kathryn M. Ireland Textiles & Design, Kristen McGinnis Design Inc., Monica Rich Kosann Photography, Nievera Williams Design, Robert Brown Interior Design, Sara Story Design, Stephen Mooney Interiors and West Chin Architect.

About the designers:

Andrew Suvalsky's work embodies the idea that a beautifully designed interior can express an intrinsic truth as well as the aspirations of the people who live there. His company, Andrew Suvalsky Designs, and the projects he's created have been celebrated and awarded in various publications, on television and in other media.

Barbara Ostrom does both residential and commercial work. She does not have a signature style, and any given day can be designing the most minimalistic contemporary Tribeca apartment to the most detailed traditional interiors enhanced with exquisite architectural woodworking. She is a high-profile, enthusiastic interior designer and regularly appears on television design specials such as Good Morning America, HGTV, Martha Stewart and PLUM TV Specials. Her work has been featured in over 50 books and every home design magazine published. Currently, she is working on a book about Showcase Houses due out next year.

Christopher Peacock is the leader in the design and manufacturing of premium lifestyle products for the home. Specializing in fitted furniture, interior paint products and spectacular hardware, Peacock's work has included many of the world's most luxurious private estates across the globe. Commissioned by a discerning clientele, he is renowned for the finest quality, elegant design, and attention to every detail. These attributes have secured his prominence in the world of luxury interior design. Headquartered in Connecticut with showrooms in Greenwich, Chicago, Boston and San Francisco, with representation through a select group of design associates, his products have been manufactured exclusively in the United States for 20 years.

With education backgrounds in architecture, engineering, and art history from Cornell, Columbia and MIT, Joan Dineen and Alyson Liss-Pobiner seamlessly combine their expertise to create joyous and unforgettable spaces. The results are sensual, modern, and informed interiors.

By using traditional elements and infusing them with a modernist aesthetic, Eve Robinson creates comfortable and sophisticated interiors that reflect the personal desires of each of her clients. Eve uses simplicity to define luxury and elegance. She believes in mixing styles, textures, and finishes to create clean lined and interesting spaces, and is committed to making the design process easy and enjoyable for her clients.

Felicia Zwebner is the owner and founder of the interior design firm Felicia Zwebner Design (formerly “Art de Triomphe”) and the furniture line FZ Collection. She designs both residential and commercial properties on the East Coast, predominately in the New York area. Her work has been exhibited in prominent designer show houses and the media has frequently featured Felicia and her projects. Felicia's passion for art, architecture and design motivated her to pursue her career in interior design and to launch her signature furniture collection. Her unique style is emblematic of her understated elegance and creativity.

Louis J. Garcia-Maldonado creates spaces that embody modern elegance. The Master of Subtle Design, best known for his luxurious, warm and eclectic style, Garcia-Maldonado has been one of America’s premier tastemakers for over 15 years. Headquartered in Manhattan’s Flatiron District with offices in the Hamptons and South Florida, Garcia / Maldonado, Inc. attracts a distinguished roster of clients ranging from the Fortune 500 to Hollywood. His signature style of refined spaces with striking details can be found in private residences throughout the New York area, the Northeast, South Florida and Mexico City. His notable public spaces include the Patron’s Lounge of the New York Philharmonic and high profile showrooms for international luxury brands.

Gomez Associates was founded by Mariette Himes Gomez in 1975 focusing primarily on residential and some commercial projects. She is known as a modernist with a luxurious edge and has been at the forefront of her profession for over 30 years. Her retail shop, “The Shop,” opened in spring 2001 and is an important resource in the design community. In 2002 she introduced a line of furniture for The Hickory Chair Company, “The Mariette Himes Gomez Collection.” As the author of three books: Rooms, Houses and Apartments, Gomez shares her decorating process to inspire readers to create their own appealing living spaces.  Her daughter Brooke has been working in the firm for over 12 years as a senior designer.

James Huniford is a residential and commercial interior designer with a penchant for pure materials, clean lines and subtle details. While creating spaces that feel both inspiring and livable, his work has appeared in Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, W, House Beautiful among others. He is the founder of Huniford Design Studio and is currently launching Huniford Collection, a line of lighting, upholstery and case goods that will be sold online and in his showroom.

Jack Levy is known for his ability to draw on a vast knowledge of art, architecture and fashion that imbues his work with a simple luxury that makes his spaces graceful, yet eminently livable.  His career in design has spanned over fifteen years, and Levy has been nationally recognized for his high-end residential, corporate and commercial design projects.

Judy King is based in Princeton, New Jersey, where she opened her design studio in 1995.  Her unique style is characterized by her carefree approach to the design world, unconventionally mixing heavy textures and colors with bold patterns.

Kathryn M. Ireland is a British-born, Los Angeles-based interiors and textile designer. She is the author of four books including the recently released Timeless Interiors, and is also a featured designer on Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators. Kathryn launched her first collection of signature fabrics in 1997, and recently debuted a collection with Scalamandre. At the same time, she launched a furniture collaboration with Grange. Kathryn’s clientele of celebrities and tastemakers includes Steve Martin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Arianna Huffington, among many others.

Kristen McGinnis uses her curator's knowledge of 20th century art and design to create rooms that are individualized and timeless. Her work has been featured in W, Traditional Home and Esquire among others. In 2009 she was selected as one of Traditional Home's 20 Young Designers to Watch.

Mario Nievera and his partner Keith Williams plan and develop diverse projects for residential estates, community parks, and corporate and institutional properties, both nationally and abroad. The work has been recognized in many national and international design publications, and his firm has earned numerous awards and recognitions for their superlative work.

From his firm in Atlanta, award-winning designer Robert Brown applies his sophisticated aesthetic to luxury projects across the nation. Brown juxtaposes classic details with contemporary silhouettes to create spaces that are at once captivating and timeless.

Since founding her eponymous design firm in 2003, Sara Story has forged a reputation for imparting to all her projects an ineffable style she can call her own. Drawing from extensive travels, an active interest in contemporary art and fashion, and a rigorous lifestyle, Sara wields a keen eye to exact her aesthetic vision: crisp, elegant, and comfortable gestures that thoughtfully balance multiple elements of good design for an everyday, polished life. She continues to lead her firm fearlessly and with grace, and always with her signature laughter. Always dynamic, the firm continues to work on residential and commercial projects worldwide. In 2012, Sara launched a wallpaper collection inspired by her love of Asia, taking traditional Asian motifs and reinterpreting them into something that a more contemporary audience can relate to.

Designer Stephen Mooney’s unique point of view is eclectic yet firmly rooted in the basic tenets of quality, comfort and timeless elegance. Keenly aware of avant-garde trends in décor and of revolutionary developments in materials and applications, Stephen remains committed to creating interiors that transcend fashion for the more everlasting style.  Stephen’s design studios and showroom are just steps off fabled Worth Avenue in charming Via Parigi. A closely knit design team creates and manages projects that range widely in scale and scope from Palm Beach to New York and across the country

West Chin, the principal architect behind WCA, is known for his distinctly modern commercial and residential work. He maintains a design philosophy that combines style with functionality, utilizing minimal, clean lines to create fluid, light-filled, spacious environments. His work includes commercial and residential projects from high-end residential spaces for fashion clients and super models to hair salons, photo studios and restaurants in NYC.
