In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.
Jessica Shaw likes textiles that inspire curiosity. The New York–based director of interiors at The Turett Collaborative gravitates toward sophisticated pieces in unexpected materials and compositions that strike a balance between innovative and trend transcendent. “Duality drives my creative process,” she tells Business of Home.
Contrast reigns supreme in her current flat lay, which features an array of two-tone graphic motifs and color combinations. “The groundwork of this palette is neutral by choice,” says Shaw. “The variety of black-and-white [designs] creates a sort of yin-yang effect—dichotomies keep things interesting.”
The final scheme is equal parts cozy and cutting-edge, showcasing a symphony of inventive items—including metallic mesh fabrics and high-tech leather weaves—that feel livable yet sexy. “Creating beautiful tension between materials is the hallmark of a sophisticated interior,” she says.
Here, the designer breaks down the details, from fluted terrazzo tile to mixed-metal finishes.
