With the new year comes new resolutions. We asked five designers—Brittany Cooper, Brieanna Cunningham, David Frazier, Brianna Untener and Karen Wolf—what changes they’re planning for their firms in 2025.

Pick and Choose
“As we enter our eighth year as a firm, we are becoming more intentional about the types of projects and clients we take on. Early on, we didn’t have the luxury of being as selective, but now it’s critical to our growth and long-term success. We evaluate each project based on whether it will advance our firm, contribute to our profitability or enhance our portfolio. If it doesn’t align with these goals, it’s better not to pursue it.” —David Frazier, David Frazier LLC, New York

Tap Those Socials
“This year, my focus is on growth and enhancing my presence on social media. I plan to dedicate more time to posting regularly, creating engaging and creative content, sharing insights into my process, and embracing the opportunity to have fun with it!” —Brianna Untener, Brianna Scott Interiors, New York

Grow the Scope
“This year, [we are] focused on growth and refinement across all areas of the business. Key goals include strengthening the team and fostering client collaboration. The company plans to expand its project scope by taking on more high-end residential and commercial work, while also exploring unique opportunities like hospitality. Enhancing client experiences remains a priority, with a focus on clear communication and strong partnerships with vendors and tradespeople.” —Brittany Cooper, Rathell Designs, Cary, North Carolina

Trust the Process
“Every year at our holiday party we assess our past accomplishments and failures and then brainstorm our focus word for the year. A recurring theme for me is ‘process.’ As a designer, this is particularly hard to adapt to: Our right brain is fighting our left brain. But I cannot express how important updating and improving our processes has been for a growing design firm. Since the creation of processes is itself a fluid process, I would like all new employees to be accountable for the documentation and editing of existing procedures. This will help with retention and also enable us to continue to capture best practices. It is truly amazing how complex the interior design business is.” —Karen Wolf, K+Co. Living, Short Hills, New Jersey

A New Blueprint
“Year after year, our team is constantly working ‘in’ the business, but in 2024, we were simultaneously working ‘on’ the business behind the scenes. We continue to grow, [so] we took a deliberate pause this year to step back and focus on enhancing C&C Partners from the inside out. We revisited all our processes, reviewed policies, redefined roles, leveled up our tech skills, and brainstormed solutions to common challenges in the office and in the field. Essentially, we drafted a new blueprint to follow in 2025.” —Brieanna Cunningham, C&C Partners Design/Build, Redondo Beach, California
