Vienna Design Week, coming up over September 25 through October 4 in Favoriten, the city’s most populated urban enclave, will not only unveil the latest in Austrian design but will also cast its spotlight on this year's “guest country,” France, as well as industry innovations hailing from other European nations. More than 150 events spanning all sorts of design (furniture, product, social and experimental, to name a few) are on tap, with a number of particular interest to interior designers.

Austrian design will be recognized throughout the fair, with the exhibit "Left & Returned" showcasing designers who have left the country, only to return with new inspirations and insights. Plus, the top Austrian design studios will receive the prestigious state prize for design, the Staatspreis Design, awarded every two years by the government, with the winners being introduced to festivalgoers at the “Walk of Fame in designforumWIEN” exhibition.

Workshops of note include Welcome to the Living Room!, which spotlights 10 different artists' and designers' conceptions of Enzo Mari's Sedia 1 Chair; Do Touch: Materials of the Future, led by material design expert Chris Lefteri, which explores materials used for architecture, furniture design, lighting and packaging; and Kitchens: Hot and Minimal, which will invite attendees to consider historical and modern kitchen design.
