Kyle Bunting, an expert in hide, presents a new collection designed by interior designer Amy Lau. The collection was unveiled during the ‘Expressive Modern’ exhibition last week at the Sebastian + Barquet gallery in Southampton, NY.

Lau had regularly specified Bunting designs, but the idea to collaborate came from working together on Lau’s room for the 2011 Kips Bay Showhouse. Says Bunting of the collaboration, “Amy has a very identifiable look which is transcendent and timeless; and a well earned reputation for extraordinary interiors. She has been a client for years, we are thrilled to see her become a collaborator. Her patterns bring a very distinctive perspective to the collection.”

Lau’s designs drew inspiration from Op Art and the iconic work of Italian architect, Gio Ponti. Lau was influenced by Ponti’s collection of patterned tiles for the Hotel Parco Dei Principi in Rome. “I was inspired by Ponti’s use of optical illusion for the floor tile designs he created, which allowed the viewers to observe various spatial experiences through color and geometry as they moved through the hotel. Hide is a perfect medium when channeling Ponti’s work as the material alone lends itself to incredible depth and dimension through both color and light, not to mention it is incredibly luxurious,” Lau explains.

Lau’s collection has three initial designs: Flaunt, Flow and Flash, and are available to order with an eight-week lead time.
