On February 1, Remains Lighting Company celebrated the launch of its collaboration with artist M.Fisher, a collection of brass-and-stone lighting, at the brand’s showroom in New York.
More than 90 guests were on hand to celebrate, including Elizabeth Graziolo, Michael Boodro, Josh Greene, Tom Kligerman, Joan and Jayne Michaels, Ellen Hamilton and Margie Lavender.
The collection derives inspiration from the story of the Minoan princess Ariadne. The central element in the sculptural designs recalls the jeweled thread that Ariadne gave to the hero Theseus to find his way through the dark and winding passages of the Minotaur’s labyrinth. To set the scene for the launch, the Remains showroom was transformed by a monumental mural by New York–based painter Leonard Porter depicting the myth.
“Making a home for this collection makes sense to me on many levels, as the materials are very basic, solid and essential and the designs are clearly classically inspired while rendered with contemporary finishes—characteristics that are all hallmarks of Remains Lighting,” said founder David Calligeros. “My company is long known for high-level craftsmanship of classic materials, but Matthew Fisher’s designs pull us into a new world of unique forms and combinations.”
