ABOUT THE ROLE
As JL Interior Design grows its custom interior design practice, we’re looking for a Senior Designer and FF&E Specialist to work closely alongside the principal on design development, product selection, and specifications. This is a deeply creative role for someone who has spent years in high-end residential design and is ready to bring significant creative ownership to a boutique firm — not just execute someone else’s vision but genuinely collaborate on it.
WHAT YOU’LL OWN
• Collaborate directly with the principal on concept development, space planning, and design direction for whole-house residential projects
• Develop and manage comprehensive FF&E schedules — furniture, fixtures, finishes, lighting, equipment — ensuring selections align with the design concept, client budget, and project timeline
• Source and specify custom pieces and millwork, managing vendor and artisan relationships to bring bespoke elements to life
• Prepare polished client-facing presentations including design boards, concept decks, and specification packages
• Build and maintain vendor, showroom, and trade relationships across the SF Bay Area design community
• Research emerging products, materials, and custom fabricators to expand the firm’s design vocabulary
• Maintain detailed project documentation including meeting summaries, specification updates, and client correspondence
• Mentor and provide direction to junior team members as the firm grows
• 9+ years of experience in high-end residential interior design, with a strong portfolio of whole-house projects
• Deep knowledge of the FF&E landscape — furniture, lighting, textiles, finishes, custom fabrication — and existing trade relationships
• A genuine design collaborator who brings ideas, not just execution
• Proficient in Studio Designer or similar project management software, Adobe Creative Suite, and presentation tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills — polished with clients and confident in a room with architects, builders, and owners’ reps
• A perfectionist with an eye for detail and the follow-through to match
• Valid CA driver’s license and reliable vehicle required for showroom visits, site visits, and vendor meetings
• Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco at your own cost.
