Job Description

PURPOSE
The Senior Designer will play a pivotal role in shaping the creative and technical vision of KARA MANN DESIGN. This position bridges architecture and interiors, translating the studio’s refined aesthetic into thoughtful, buildable spaces that embody timeless beauty and modern living. The ideal candidate brings design sensitivity, technical rigor, and leadership strength - guiding projects from concept through completion while upholding the studio’s standards of excellence, collaboration, and craftsmanship.

DESIGN LEADERSHIP
-Lead architectural design development through all project phases (SD / DD / CD / CA)
-Direct and refine design concepts, ensuring alignment with the studio’s creative vision
-Manage and deliver client presentations with clarity, confidence, and strong design intent

TEAM & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
-Oversee project teams of 2–3 designers, fostering collaboration and maintaining accuracy and quality across deliverables
-Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources while proactively addressing constructability and design challenges
-Ensure all work meets the studio’s standards for excellence, precision, and creativity

CLIENT, CONSULTANT & CONTRACTOR COORDINATION
-Coordinate seamlessly with general contractors, consultants, and clients through clear, professional, and proactive communication
-Lead design and technical discussions to support project goals and resolve on-site issues efficiently

MATERIALITY & DETAILING
-Source authentic materials and finishes that reflect the studio’s philosophy of timeless design and modern living
-Develop custom architectural details that elevate the overall design narrative and craftsmanship of each project

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION
-Manage all aspects of construction administration, including shop drawing reviews, RFIs, and regular site supervision
-Translate design intent into built form with rigorous attention to detail and quality execution

Job Requirements

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
-8+ years of experience in a residential interior design or architecture firm
-Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited university
-Proven track record leading projects from concept through construction

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY
-Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and SketchUp
-Experience producing comprehensive architectural drawing sets and documentation
-Bonus Skills: Rhino, V-Ray, and Studio Designer

DESIGN & CREATIVE VISION
-Possesses a distinct design voice and a thoughtful, measured approach that prioritizes enduring beauty over trends
-Skilled in translating conceptual ideas into refined, buildable design solutions
-Exceptional presentation and storytelling abilities

LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION
-Demonstrated leadership in managing and mentoring design teams
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with clients, consultants, and contractors
-Strong sense of accountability, organization, and follow-through across multiple projects

TECHNICAL & CONSTRUCTION KNOWLEDGE
-Deep understanding of residential construction methods, detailing, and material applications
-Experience managing project budgets and balancing creative vision with practical execution
