We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and strategic Controller / Senior Accountant to oversee all financial operations of our high-end interior design firm. This role is responsible for managing accounting functions, financial reporting, project profitability analysis, cash flow management, budgeting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate understands both traditional accounting principles and the unique financial requirements of residential interior design, including project-based accounting, procurement, vendor management, and inventory tracking.This position serves as a key business partner to ownership and leadership, providing financial insight that supports growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
Financial Management & Reporting
Manage all day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Develop and maintain accurate financial forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections.
Present financial reports and performance metrics to ownership and leadership.
Monitor company financial health and provide strategic recommendations.
Procurement & Inventory Oversight
Oversee accounting related to furniture, furnishings, equipment, and material procurement.
Reconcile vendor invoices with purchase orders and client billings.
Monitor inventory and warehousing costs with Head of Retail help
Ensure accurate tracking of client deposits and procurement expenditures.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
Manage daily cash position.
Oversee client collections and vendor payments.
Develop strategies to optimize cash flow and working capital.
Maintain banking relationships and coordinate financing activities when needed.
Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Coordinate annual tax preparation and external audits.
Establish and maintain internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
Monitor insurance policies, licenses, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
7+ years of accounting experience.
3+ years in a Controller, Senior Accountant, or Accounting Manager role.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Experience with project-based accounting.
Advanced proficiency in Studio Designer, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar accounting software.
Advanced Excel skills and financial modeling capabilities.
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
High level of discretion and professionalism.
