On Thursday, October 6, Janus et Cie celebrated the highly anticipated U.S. launch of Serengeti, its first collection with renowned architect and designer Philippe Starck. Journalist and founder of The Grand Tourist podcast Dan Rubinstein co-hosted the fete at the Janus et Cie showroom in Atlanta, where an exclusive group of designers and press gathered to view the eight-piece collection and mingle with the creator himself.
An intimate conversation between Starck and Rubinstein revealed the designer’s inspiration behind the collection, as well as the work that goes into each item he creates. “With every project, I start from scratch,” said Starck. “Everything you see that’s beautiful, it’s me. Everything you see that’s ugly, it’s me. I take full responsibility for everything.”
The collection is inspired by nature and the Tanzanian savanna for which it is named. Pieces feature clean lines, plush cushions and premium teak with visible peg joinery crafted for durability and longevity.
Adds Starck, “This timeless collection is forever.”
