On Thursday, October 26, House Beautiful officially opened the doors to the sixth annual Whole Home. Located in Hinsdale, Illinois, a bustling suburb just outside downtown Chicago, this more than 13,000-square-foot property was renovated and reimagined by the incredible build team at J. Jordan Homes, guided by owner Julie Laux, and a roster of 13 design teams hailing from all across the country. For the first year ever, House Beautiful led the charge on a historic restoration, creating modern, one-of-a-kind spaces throughout the circa 1900 home. Together with an all-female design team and J. Jordan’s female-led build team, the result for House Beautiful was nothing short of spectacular.
“We were so excited to focus on a historic property for the first time with J. Jordan Homes,” said Carisha Swanson, director of editorial special projects for House Beautiful. “It’s really important that we show our audience that you don’t have to rip everything down to make a storied home work for a modern family. Any designer will tell you, it takes a lot of money to add in architectural features like all the gorgeous moldings that are already part of this 1906 home. Understanding where the value is in older properties and showcasing those features was the goal of this year’s project—and the home is breathtaking. Each space had its own particular challenges that our 13 design teams had to work around, and their creativity really highlights the value of interior designers. I hope every person who reads the story or visits this home or goes through our 3D interactive walk-through takes away a smart idea for their own home, whether brand-new or historic.”
