Exhibits, installations, seminars, talks, films and more, designed for artists and collectors alike: Art Basel is returning to Switzerland June 16 through June 19, with 280-plus galleries featuring work by 4,000 modern and contemporary artists.
Among the exhibits on tap are “Unlimited 2016,” a large-scale art show featuring the likes of Mithu Sen’s “MUO (Museum of Unbelonging),” a display cabinet filled with everyday objects, each individually named and collected by the artist since childhood; “Parcours,” an interactive exhibit in the city’s historical center, including locales like the cathedral, an underground tunnel and the Rhine River; and film screenings including Omer Fast’s Continuity and Timothy Marrinan and Richard Dewey’s Burden.
Design Miami/Basel will offer programming at the fair too; in addition to hosting 46 internationally sourced galleries, the show will present programs including a showcase of Zaha Hadid’s work; the Swarovski Designers of the Future Award; a Kuehn Malvezzi-designed Collectors Lounge; and the returning Design Talks series, with leaders like Andreas Ruby of the Swiss Architecture Museum, SO-IL’s Florian Idenburg, and Kuehn Malvezzi, among others.
