A new installation from students at The Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design in collaboration with Sir John Soane’s Museum explores the theme of the "primitive hut." Drawing upon architect Soane's own collection, which is replete with drawings, books and models on the theme that he used to teach his own students, groups of students were tasked with developing an installation, which will be on display until July 6 as part of the London Festival of Architecture.

An expert panel, including Abraham Thomas, director of Sir John Soane’s Museum, Ellis Woodman, director of the Architecture Foundation, Joseph Rykwert, architectural historian and authority on primitive huts and Anne Markey of Cass Projects, judged the projects, selecting Unit 10 as the first-place winner. Unit 10 explored the balance that shelter must maintain between the ground and the external environment and proposed a full-size construction of their idea using materials reclaimed from London-area demolition companies.
