Southern Living sponsors restoration of historic farmhouse

This year’s Southern Living Idea House, located just outside of Atlanta, opened its doors not just for tours, but for guests to interact with the design minds behind the operation.

The house chosen for this year’s project is an 1830’s farmhouse which was in need of restoration. With a team of architectural designers, interior designers and landscape designers, the farmhouse, which is one of the oldest in the town, was restored to its original beauty.


Over the course of seven months, the house was moved closer to the street, gutted, reconfigured, enlarged, and redecorated.


An entire day was dedicated to participating designers and sponsors, who were able to interact with the community about the inspirations and ideas behind the house’s renovation.

The Idea House Project team included: the developer, Senoia Enterprises, Inc.; the development, The Gin Property, Senoia, Ga.; architecture firm, Historical Concepts; interior design firm, Tracery Interiors; landscape design firm, Get More Curb Appeal; builder, John Bynum Custom Homes; and charitable partner, Camp Southern Ground. All of whom joined together for the event and sponsors who made it included: IKEA, Phantom Screens, Shaw Floors and Sherwin-Williams.

The house is still open to the public for viewing Wednesday – Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. and will remain open through the end of December. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased, here.
