When the doors of the Park Avenue Armory open this Thursday for the third-annual Salon: Art + Design, collectors from around the world will discover arguably some of the greatest collections of both 20th-century and contemporary art and design all assembled under one roof, a coterie of fine pieces dating from 1890 to the present, along with major works of ethnographic art and antiquities—and that's not even mentioning special events like designer-led tours.

Salon Art + Design

“This year’s show brings an astonishing range of material,” said Jill Bokor, executive director, of Salon: Art + Design. “From museum-quality 18th-century to Art Deco, from Reitveld to young stars like the Haas Brothers.”

This year, 38 galleries return, joined by 17 new exhibitors from Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin, Cologne, Korea, London, New York, Paris and Turin.

Coming to New York for the first time is the Parisian Galerie kreo, and Berlin’s Ulrich Fiedler Gallery bringing rare and specialized design objects from the 20th century. Dutko Galerie will also join the fair for the first time, offering a mix of 20th-century art and design. Also among the newest exhibitors is DeLorenzo Gallery, one of the premier dealers of Art Deco in the United States.

“Curating an exhibition of this caliber must take into account the needs and interests of today’s influencers at every touch point,” said Bokor, “It is a challenge to make 55 galleries filling an entire city block still feel intimate. I’ve produced many shows over the past 35 years, and this year’s Salon is by far our proudest achievement. New York hasn’t seen a line-up like this ever."
