Architect and designer Patricia Urquiola will receive the IIDA's 2015 Titan Award at the IIDA annual meeting on June 14 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. The Oviedo, Spain, native graduated from the faculty of architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Milan and has collaborated with industry luminaries such as Achille Castiglioni, Eugenio Bettinelli and Vico Magistretti. She opened her Milan studio in 2001, where she currently works in product design, architecture, interiors, installations and concept creation and with clients including Alessi, Axor, B&B Italia, Flos, Four Seasons Hotels, Kartell, Mandarin Oriental Hotels, Molteni, Rosenthal and W Hotels.
“Patricia is a world-renowned talent whose design path and experiences have been extraordinary,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl Durst. “She has collaborated with some of the best designers in the world, and her vision and unique designs have catapulted her into being recognized as an international design leader.”
Among Urguiola's many honors are the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, and the Order of Isabella the Catholic by King of Spain Juan Carlos I from the government of Spain, as well as the distinction of Designer of the Year from Wallpaper, AD Spain, ELLE DECOR International, and Architektur und Wohnen magazines.
