Dutch interior and product designer Marcel Wanders is blazing new trails with a line of cosmetics for M·A·C, an Estée Lauder brand. The introduction includes a limited-edition collection that includes Lipstick, Lip Gloss, Sheer Mystery Powder, Air of Style Scent Concentrate and his signature brush and clutch creations.

Drawing inspiration from 17th Century Flemish painting, particularly Vermeer’s Girl With a Pearl Earring, Wanders evokes the idea of an artist painting a portrait and falling in love.

"Makeup is such a wonderful invention. Women paint themselves to be beautiful, and have done so for thousands of years. This fundamental idea, and the way that it connects to art – first women paint themselves, then the painter takes his brushes to paint her – immediately interested me," said Wanders in an interview about the collection.

Wanders' previous product collaborations include crystal for Baccarat, homewards for Target, fragrance for Cacharel, bags for Mandarina Duck, and beach wear for Puma.

Wanders' designed Thor at the Hotel Rivington in New York City.
