The IIDA’s 11th annual Student Design Competition is open for submissions. Sponsored by OFS Brands, the contest celebrates innovative and functional design. This year’s theme is “The Future of the Urban University,” and students are challenged to come up with mixed-use designs for three floors of a university building in Detroit.

“Rising tuition, an increase in entrepreneurial hubs with hands-on apprenticeships and training, and new teaching best practices have given us the opportunity to rethink how educational institutions are managed, planned and designed,” said IIDA executive vice president and CEO Cheryl S. Durst. “Students are uniquely positioned to approach the challenge of mixed-use university building from a unique perspective and with fresh ideas. I am eager to see the solutions presented in the Student Design Competition.”

Students from across the globe who are currently enrolled in an interior design program may submit ideas and solutions as a team or individually. The deadline for submissions is Monday, February 1, 2016. The projects will be judged by panel of design experts, and winners will be announced in the Spring 2016 issue of IIDA student newsletter Quad and showcased on IIDA’s website and blog, DesignMatters.

First place will receive $2,500; second, $1,500; and third, $750.
