Bryant Park was transformed into a stunning wool installation, complete with a flock of sheep, as the Campaign for Wool, launched by HRH The Prince of Wales, made it’s way to the United States last week.

The campaign’s mission is to re-educate consumers and media on the benefits of wool, one of the most environmentally-friendly and sustainable fibers in the world.

Interior Designer Steven Gambrel was there to back the campaign and discussed the benefits of using wool in design and his favorite things to use it for.

“I use it in textiles for upholstery, I use it on walls, it’s a great way to make a room cozy,” said Gambrel.  “On the flip side I can find a sheer version of wool, hang it in a window, have beautiful light come through it and all of a sudden it feels very modern.” Gambrel also liked the idea that it can be both traditional and modern but all natural.

Esquire’s Fashion Director Nick Sullivan and Timo Weiland’s Co-Founder Alan Eckstein also talked about the benefits of using wool in fashion.

Over 250 brands support the Campaign for Wool in the United States, and companies backing the initiative use the Green Sheep logo. ABC Carpets, Vi-spring, Gensler, Brintons, Camira and Godfrey Hirst have all partnered with the campaign and are working to spread the use of wool in all forms of design.
