Global Age-Friendly Design Awards 2010 showcases ideas on products that can change and enhance the lifestyles of the elderly.
This year's theme, “Redefining Age,” is not a new genre of design, nor a separate specialism, but an approach to design in general and an element of business strategy that seeks to ensure that mainstream products, services and environments are accessible to the largest number of people across different generations.
According to GADA, there has been a shift away from treating disabled and older people as special cases requiring special design solutions. In the new paradigm, they are integrated into the mainstream of everyday life through a more inclusive and embracing approach in the design of buildings, public spaces and, more recently, products and services. This results in social equality, but also a significant opportunity for business growth through new products and services.
GADA invites students, design professionals, design firms and the general public to submit. Winners are invited to be present in Singapore at the awards ceremony in person on November 19, 2010. All winning entries will have their work exhibited during the International Conference on Design for Ageing in Singapore from November 18 to 20, 2010.
