Tama Duffy Day, Judith Heerwagen, Haworth and Amy Campos are the winners of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) 2014 Design Awards and will be honored at Celebration, the annual awards gala in Los Angeles on June 21.

"These four awards pay tribute to the remarkable contributions and accomplishments of our peers, but more importantly they serve as a barometer for the interior design profession," said Rachelle Schoessler Lynn, president of ASID. "These innovators are making bold strides in technology, evidence-based and human-centric design and are training the next generation of designers. They exemplify the field's strength, promise and value."

The four prestigious awards recognize those who have achieved the highest level of excellence in interior design. Recipients are outstanding members of the design community who demonstrate an unyielding commitment to advancing the profession and harnessing the power of design to improve the human experience. The winners have contributed important work in healthcare design, education and research, technology innovation and workplace design.

Designer of Distinction: Tama Duffy Day, FASID, FIIDA, LEED AP BD+C

Over the past 30 years, Washington, D.C.-based Tama Duffy Day has produced an impressive body of work demonstrating the measurable effects of design on productivity, efficiency and health outcomes. As the firm-wide leader of the Health & Wellness Practice Area at Gensler, a research-driven global design and architecture firm, her practice probes the healing capabilities of interior design and its capacity to influence cultures. Day's commitment to research-driven design is matched by her dedication to mentoring and inspiring the next generation of designers.

Design for Humanity: Judith Heerwagen

Working at the intersection of design and psychology, Seattle-based Judith Heerwagen seeks solutions to improve environmental and human health. A behavioral ecology and environmental psychology expert in the U.S. General Services Administration's Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings, Heerwagen's pioneering research in biophilia examines how design influences organizational effectiveness as well as occupant behavior, health and work performance. Her influence in the GSA, the world's largest real estate owner, will benefit the organization's more than 12,000 employees and have a ripple effect throughout the design industry.

Nancy Vincent McClelland Merit Award: Amy Campos

Amy Campos is the founder of San Francisco-based Amy Campos Architect (ACA), an interdisciplinary architecture and design firm that views every project as an opportunity to improve the way we work, live and play. Her innovative approach to interior design has proven successful in her practice and in the classroom. Campos has taught architecture, urban design and interior design at several prestigious design institutions and is currently an assistant professor at the California College of the Arts.

Design Innovation: Haworth

Haworth, a global leader in workspace solutions based in Holland, Mich., is transforming collaboration and communication in the workplace. Bluescape, a new cloud-based technology "accelerates decision-making by enabling anyone to create, communicate, visualize, organize and strategize virtually anything, anywhere, anytime," according to the company. Developed in partnership with Obscura Digital, the visual collaborative interface connects teams across time zones in an infinite workspace, where an unlimited number of users can write, draw, share media and work with online applications to solve problems in real-time.

Each year, ASID appoints a distinguished panel of professional members, fellows and representatives of the design community to serve on the awards committee. These leaders review nominations and select the winners. This year's awards were judged by Gary Wheeler, FASID, FIIDA, co-founder of WHEELERKÄNIK; Susan S. Szenasy, Hon. ASLA, Hon. AIA NYC, publisher of Metropolis; Jennifer Busch, Hon. IIDA, vice president of A&D Market Development at Interface; Tim Duggan, ASLA, community planner and landscape architect at the Make it Right Foundation; and Elizabeth Oshana, Allied ASID, healthcare designer at CAMA Inc.
