Designers gear up for Fall Market events at DCOTA

South Florida-based interior designers should be sending in their RSVPs as the Design Center for the Americas (DCOTA) is preparing for an exciting Fall Market on Thursday, November 13. This year’s edition features three keynote presentations as well as new product introductions, book signings and a special gallery opening.

Presenters will be flying in from around the country to take part in this year’s Market. Attendees will hear from Los Angeles-based Windsor Smith and New York-based Laura Kirar, as well as from designers Allison Paladino, Mercedes Desio, Alberto Villalobos, business consultant Steve Nobel and contract lawyer Alan Siegel.

Windsor Smith, Laura Kirar, Allison Paladino and Betty Cortina-Weiss

On Thursday, November 13, Market will kick off with a keynote panel discussion at 10:30 a.m. featuring Windsor Smith, Laura Kirar, Allison Paladino, moderated by Betty Cortina-Weiss, Editor in Chief of Indulge magazine. The designers will discuss everything from their creative processes to their theories on detail and how their personal experiences have inspired their design work.

The presentation will take place in the C Atrium followed by cocktails with Kirar at Baker (11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., Suite A-200), a lunch reception with Smith at Century Furniture (12:15 – 1:00 p.m., Suite B-228), and deserts with Paladino at Judith Norman (1:00 – 1:45 p.m., Suite A-250).  Guests will be able to view the three designer’s latest furniture pieces the entire afternoon.

Later in the day, attorney Alan Siegel and consultant Steve Nobel will give a business-focused presentation exploring the merits of fee-based compensation, how to calculate fees and even how to pitch a project compensated by fees. The discussion will take place at 1:45 p.m. in the C Atrium and a reception will be held in the Kravet showroom (Suite B180) afterwards.

The final keynote of the day will bring together interior designers Mercedes Desio and Alberto Villalobos of Villalobos Desio to discuss their unique approach to creating spaces. The design duo will share their advice, tips and expertise. The presentation will take place at 4:15 p.m. in the C Atrium.

Fall Market will conclude with the gallery opening reception of Durston Saylor: Circumstantial Evidence. The exhibition features more than 20 large-format, detailed “abstractions” by Durston Saylor, one of New York’s foremost architectural photographers. The reception will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Suite A150.
